Sri Lanka’s exports to India up by a record 34.84% to $815M in 2021

Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports to India increased by a record 34.84% to $815.11 million in 2021.

India retained its position as the third-largest buyer of goods from Sri Lanka in the year. The exports to India have grown by over $200 million in absolute values when compared to $ 604.50 million exports in 2020 and $758.97 million exports in 2019.

Further, India was also the third fastest-growing market for Sri Lankan goods in the year behind the Netherlands and Canada over the past two years.

Exports to China also recorded a growth of 22.75 percent compared to 2020 hitting an all-time high of $273.73 million. However, China slipped one spot among top export markets for the Island nation last year becoming the 9th largest export market.

The United States, United Kingdom, and European Union accounted for majority of the country’s exports in 2020.
