Parliamentary Council Approves New Members of Welfare Benefits Board

The nomination submitted by the Minister of Finance to the Parliamentary Council for membership of the Welfare Benefits Board has been approved by the Council. Accordingly. K. H. Jessie Mueller and K. Dunusinghe had been appointed as members of the Welfare Benefits Board.
The Welfare Benefits Board is currently in the process of identifying social welfare recipients for welfare programs such as Samurdhi through a transparent selection process.
The Welfare Benefits Board was established under the Welfare Benefits Act of 2002. However, the process of identifying social welfare recipients under the Act was only initiated only this year.
After the identification process, the Welfare Benefits Board is planning to establish a welfare benefits information system next year to provide more targeted cash transfers to the most in need.
