The Chairman points out that the primary objective of this is to make Sri Lanka the richest country in the world.

According to Dr. Vitarana, although Sri Lankan gem traders currently have gem stocks worth trillions of US dollars, they do not have the liquidity to convert them into cash immediately. Concerning this hindrance, he proposes the establishment of a ‘Gem Bank of Sri Lanka’ as a solution to this situation and to directly contribute that value to the country’s economy.

The All Ceylon Gem Miners and Dealers Association believes that by systematically managing these gem stocks through such a bank, Sri Lanka’s economic stability can be achieved and foreign exchange reserves can be increased. The detailed proposal for the establishment of this gem bank has been submitted by the Association to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for the consideration of intended parties.

Source : Daily News

[5
