The Department of Management Audit has launched a series of awareness programmes aimed at strengthening the role of internal audit in enhancing public financial management and improving transparency, accountability and efficiency across the public sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first phase of the programme was held on Wednesday (5) at the new auditorium of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, bringing together Chief Internal Auditors and Internal Auditors representing all Ministries and Government Departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Department of Management Audit said the initiative is intended to enhance the contribution of internal audit towards supporting the Government\u2019s economic development process through stronger financial governance and greater transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The awareness programme focused on the responsibilities of the Ministry of Finance and Chief Accounting Officers and Accounting Officers in maintaining financial control and discipline. Participants were also briefed on the role and responsibilities of internal auditors in ensuring efficient, accountable and transparent public financial management. Special emphasis was placed on the Electronic Procurement (E-Procurement) system and the audit of electronic procurement processes, highlighting the growing importance of digital oversight in Government financial administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Department said the awareness programme marks the beginning of a broader series of one-day training sessions that will also cover Chief Internal Auditors and Internal Auditors attached to District Secretariats, Special Spending Units, Government-funded projects and Directors of Internal Audit serving Provincial Councils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative forms part of the Government\u2019s efforts to strengthen internal audit functions, improve financial discipline and reinforce good governance across the public sector in support of sustainable economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
