{"id":7296,"date":"2026-09-11T06:05:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T00:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economictimes.lk\/?p=7296"},"modified":"2026-09-11T06:05:02","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T00:35:02","slug":"edb-kelaniya-university-forge-innovation-link-to-boost-electronics-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economictimes.lk\/index.php\/2026\/09\/11\/edb-kelaniya-university-forge-innovation-link-to-boost-electronics-exports\/","title":{"rendered":"EDB, Kelaniya University forge innovation link to boost electronics exports"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) and the University of Kelaniya have launched a new industry-academia collaboration aimed at strengthening Sri Lanka\u2019s electronic and electrical exports through research, innovation and product diversification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dailynews.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Untitled-50-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1038405\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5011547344110854;width:650px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative, titled \u201cInnovation Bridge 2026,\u201d brought together exporters, manufacturers, academics and industry experts at a seminar and mini innovation exhibition held at the University of Kelaniya on September 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 50 participants attended the programme, while over 30 new products were showcased at the exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The collaboration, supported by the university\u2019s Centre for Technology Transfer and Industry Linkage, University Incubation Centre and Electronics Design and Innovation Centre, is the first such University-EDB-Industry initiative designed to provide integrated support for research and development, intellectual property, artificial intelligence and new product development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants were briefed on improving product quality, technology, standards and cost efficiency, while also exploring the use of AI tools for international marketing and identifying new overseas buyers. Prof. Jeewantha Premaratne, Senior Prof. Sudath Kalingamudali, Prof. Aruna Ranaweera and Dr. Deepani Wijethunga shared expertise on R&amp;D, testing, quality improvements, cost efficiency and intellectual property opportunities available through the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lanka Technology Manufacturers General Manager Chaturanga Kuruppu discussed the application of AI in international business development, while EDB Deputy Director Akila De Zoysa outlined the objectives of the programme and the current status of Sri Lanka\u2019s electronic and electrical sector.
